Timing Chains

Most manufacturers design timing chains to last for the lifetime of the vehicle, unlike timing belts which do need replacing after a certain number of miles.

Timing chains only really need to be replaced if a problem occurs with the chain or the components around it such as the tensioners and guides. The most common problem that we see with timing chains is wear which has been caused by insufficient lubrication of the component parts often due to old oil and this can be avoided by regular servicing and oil changes at JR Vehicle Services. Occasionally we see timing chains that have stretched or snapped, including BMW, Jaguar and Land Rover Ingenium timing chains, so if you hear any unusual rattling sounds from the engine, it’s time to give us a call.
